A great charity ride for a great cause.
Bikes Not Bombs is a great grassroots community organization. They support the local community by teaching inner city youth valuable job skills. They support the global community by shipping used bikes to people around the world. And the Earth itself by taking bikes that might otherwise end up in the landfill and giving them a new life in any number of ways. The bikes sent to various third world countries are used as transportation, to support families and to support and even create local businesses. Some families are even able to send some of their children to school because of a single donated bicycle! But not only does Bikes not Bombs get the bikes to these people in need they also teach them how to maintain their bikes and helps to set up local bike shops to supply needed parts, maintenance, and repair.
I did the long route, advertised as 62 miles but closer to 67 according to the cue sheet.
